Walmart Will Expand Its Pickup Towers to 700 Locations by End of 2018
There’s no denying that buy online, pick up in store (BOPIS) is all the rage in the retail industry.
According to a recent study, 66% of shoppers have chosen the BOPIS option in the past six months. The main reasons are avoidance of shipping fees (86% of shoppers, up from 79% in 2017); flexible pick-up times (85%, up from 78%); the ability to touch and try merchandise (77%, up from 68%); and saving time at the store (76%, up from 71%). Additionally, 86% of retailers are planning to implement a BOPIS option within the next year.

Last week, Walmart announced that its Pickup Towers will be in more than 700 locations by year’s end, making them available to nearly 40% of the U.S. population. According to Walmart, the customer response to their initial roll out of 200 Pickup Towers over the last year was overwhelmingly positive, “more than half a million orders have been retrieved through the towers since we first introduced them.”
