How to use Parcel Pending by Quadient Smart Lockers

They’re appearing in locations all over the country; inside and outside stores, at train stations, carparks and even football stadiums – but what exactly are smart lockers and how do you use them? 

What is a smart locker?

Smart Lockers provide a convenient and secure option for deliveries, returns, exchanges, and storage. Smart lockers are not a new solution, but their popularity has sky-rocketed in recent years providing consumers an alternative option to send and receive parcels and other items.

Can you tell me more about Parcel Pending by Quadient? 

Used by multiple carriers. We are the only locker company partnering with 4 of the major UK carriers including Royal Mail, DPD, Evri and UPS plus service providers such as KeyNest, Bounce, and Stasher. This means that you can utilise our locker locations to return, send, and collect parcels and other items with these carriers and service providers.

  • Available around the clock. When located in accessible public places, our lockers can be used 24/7. So, no need to queue up in the post office to make a return or wait at home all day for a delivery driver – you can pick-up or drop-off your items at a time that is convenient to you!
  • No printer, no problem! Our lockers feature a built-in label printer, making sending and returning stress-free. No need to scramble around looking for printer ink. Instead, you can book a label through your carrier, print and attach it directly at the locker and deposit your item safe in the knowledge that it won’t get mislabelled by a carrier and end up at the wrong destination!
  • Keeps your items secure. Parcel theft is unfortunately a part of life. With reported thefts and the value of parcels increasing every year, getting packages and other items delivered to a parcel locker means you can rest assured that your items will be safe in the event that you are not home to receive them.
  • They don’t cost the Earth. Our lockers make deliveries more sustainable. Instead of delivering door to door, carriers can consolidate multiple deliveries to a smart locker. Additionally, since there is no physical handover required, items are successfully delivered and kept secure in the locker until you are ready to collect, reducing the need for redelivery attempts. This helps to reduce the number of journeys carriers make, and the amount of time they spend on the road – reducing CO2 emissions.

How to use Parcel Pending by Quadient lockers 

If you would like to send parcels or items via a Parcel Pending by Quadient locker, first you will need to set up a delivery or return with one of our trusted partners ensuring you select one of our smart lockers as your delivery method. This will provide you with a label that you can print yourself at home or with a QR code that will allow you to scan at our locker and print there.

How to return items

  1. Generate your return code: When making a return, select a locker as your return option with your retailer. Your retailer will send you a barcode to use once you get to the locker.
  2. Scan your code: Once you arrive at your designated locker location, select ‘drop off’ on the touchscreen, then scan your barcode.
  3. (OPTIONAL) Print your return label: If your parcel or item is not already labelled, select ‘print’ and apply your return label.
  4. Place your parcel/item in a locker: Select the smallest box size that will fit your parcel or item. Once you’ve put your item inside, close the locker door.
  5. You’re done! Your retailer will notify you that your item has been returned via email or text and process any funds accordingly.

How to send items 

  1. Register your parcel/item with your carrier/service provider: When sending a parcel or item with our lockers, select a locker as your drop-off option with your chosen carrier or business/service. They will send you a barcode to use once you get to the locker.
  2.  Scan your code: Once you arrive at your designated locker location, select ‘drop off’ on the touchscreen, then scan your barcode.
  3. (OPTIONAL) Print your shipping label: If your parcel or item is not already labelled, select ‘print’ and apply your shipping label.
  4. Place your parcel/item in the lockers: Select the smallest box size that will fit your parcel or item. Once you’ve put your item inside, close the locker door.
  5. You’re done! Your carrier or business/service will notify you that your parcel or item has been dropped off as well as provide any tracking numbers or additional instructions via email or text.

How to collect items 

  1. Make a transaction online: When shopping with your favourite retailer or using a business for item storage or C2C exchanges, select a locker as your collection point. When your item has been delivered to the lockers, you will receive an email with a pick-up barcode to scan at the lockers.
  2. Scan your code: Once you arrive at your designated locker location, select ‘pick up’ on the touchscreen, then scan your barcode.
  3. Collect your item: Once you’ve entered the code, the locker containing your parcel or item will open. Grab your item and close the locker door.
  4. You’re on your way!
