Cyber Monday Breaks Record and Racks up $6.59 Billion in Online Sales

This year’s Cyber Monday was one for the books!
According to Adobe Analytics, Cyber Monday was the largest online shopping day in history with $6.59 billion in online sales – a 16.8% YOY increase.
And what’s more is that mobile also set a new record! According to Adobe, mobile represented 47.4% of online visits (39.9% smartphones, 7.6% tablets) and 33.1% of revenue (24.1% smartphones, 9% tablets). Additionally, smartphone traffic specifically grew 22.2% YoY while revenue coming from smartphones ($1.59 billion) saw 39.2% growth YoY, a new all-time high.
This should come as no surprise considering that today, 73% of U.S. households have broadband and 75% of Americans have smartphones, according to the Pew Research Center.
In addition to Cyber Monday, a record $5.03 billion was spent online during Black Friday – an increase of 17% from 2016 – and Saturday and Sunday delivered a combined $5.12 billion in online sales, up 10 % from last year, according to Adobe.
Aside from Black Friday and Cyber Monday, overall holiday sales are predicted to be as high as $682 billion – up 4% from last year – according to the National Retail Federation. In fact, Adobe projects that for the rest of the season, 13 days will exceed $2 billion in online sales bringing the total to 18 $2 billion days this holiday season, over double the number from last year.
With so many purchases, it is no wonder that UPS anticipates delivering about 750 million packages this holiday season – a 7% increase from its prediction last year – and more than 30 million packages every day for 17 of the 21 shipping days before Christmas.
What does this all mean for Property Managers (PMs)? They need to brace themselves for a major influx of resident deliveries and packages. That said, the time is now for PMs to invest in a parcel locker to help their teams seamlessly manage the seasonal boost in packages.
