Walmart Will Expand Its Pickup Towers to 700 Locations by End of 2018<\/em>
\nThere\u2019s no denying that buy online, pick up in store (BOPIS) is all the rage in the retail industry.
\nAccording to a recent study<\/a>, 66%\u00a0of shoppers have chosen the BOPIS option in the past six months. The main reasons are avoidance of shipping fees (86%\u00a0of shoppers, up from\u00a079%\u00a0in 2017); flexible pick-up times (85%,\u00a0up from 78%); the ability to touch and try merchandise (77%,\u00a0up from 68%); and saving time at the store (76%,\u00a0up from 71%). Additionally, 86%\u00a0of retailers<\/a> are planning to implement a BOPIS option within the next year.
\nAt Parcel Pending, we\u2019ve witnessed tremendous growth in retail stores providing BOPIS services. In fact, Walmart is the latest powerhouse validating the BOPIS retail locker<\/a> – or as we like to call it BOPIL (buy online, pick up in locker) – model.
\nLast week, Walmart announced that its Pickup Towers will be in more than 700 locations by year\u2019s end, making them available to nearly 40% of the U.S. population. According to Walmart, the customer response to their initial roll out of 200 Pickup Towers over the last year was overwhelmingly positive, \u201cmore than half a million orders have been retrieved through the towers since we first introduced them.\u201d<\/a>
