New FOI data reveals the value of parcel theft has nearly doubled in the last year, rising from \u00a3376.6 million in 2024, with the average price of a stolen parcel reaching \u00a3138<\/strong><\/h4>\n

London, November 11, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n

A record breaking \u00a3666.5 million worth of parcels were stolen across the UK in the last 12 months, nearly \u00a3290 million more than in 2024. That\u2019s according to new Freedom of Information (FOI) data obtained by technology company, Quadient<\/a> (Euronext Paris: QDT).<\/p>\n

The figures reveal 4.83 million homes<\/a> suffered at least one stolen parcel, representing a 31% rise from last year. However, despite this surge, just one in 353 thefts is reported to police, suggesting that the true scale of theft is being dramatically underreported.<\/p>\n

While December remains the peak month for opportunistic thieves, November continues to be the second busiest month for parcel theft, likely driven by Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. However, what was once a seasonal issue is now a year-round risk for consumers. Meanwhile, the average value of a stolen parcel has climbed from \u00a3102 to \u00a3138, pushing UK consumer losses to unprecedented levels.<\/p>\n

Supporting consumer research conducted by Quadient reveals that the public is aware of the issues and seeking safer delivery options. In fact, nearly two thirds (64%) of the UK public say they\u2019d feel more comfortable using secure parcel lockers or collection points instead of doorstep delivery. Additionally, more than two-thirds (68%) would prefer to miss a delivery entirely rather than risk having their parcel stolen. Concerns around how the crimes are dealt with also run high for consumers. Almost eight in ten (79%) believe authorities should take parcel theft more seriously.<\/p>\n

Regional data highlights the UK\u2019s most vulnerable areas: Leicestershire (799 reports), Hertfordshire (767), and Kent (750) top the list of hotspots, while the City of London (3) and Cheshire (16) reported the fewest incidents. The data also continues to show that people aged 22 \u2013 44 are the most likely demographic to report parcel theft (53%).<\/p>\n

\u201cParcel theft has risen dramatically in the past year, and with the busiest delivery season approaching, the message from consumers is clear: they don\u2019t want packages left on their doorsteps anymore,\u201d<\/em> said Katia Bourgeais-Cr\u00e9mel, Director of Lockers Automation Europe at Quadient. \u201cWith UK households losing an estimated \u00a3666.5 million to parcel theft in just 12 months, with many of these thefts taking place in broad daylight, the findings make a clear case for making secure parcel lockers the norm, not the exception.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cRetailers and carriers should review their practices and move away from defaulting to \u2018safe place\u2019 drops, prioritising secure collection points or lockers to protect customers and their reputations. For consumers, especially during December\u2019s peak period, choosing lockers or pick-up services for higher-value items can significantly reduce the risk of theft. By embracing secure locker infrastructure, business and communities can help reverse the rise in crime, ease pressure on police, and restore consumer confidence in home delivery.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Data in this press release is based on Freedom of Information (FOI) requests sent to the UK\u2019s 45 territorial police forces. The 2025 data is based on responses from 27 police forces, representing a population of 32,374,700. For comparison, the 2024 FOI data was based on responses from 21 forces, representing a population of 23,920,200 people.<\/p>\n

To determine UK-wide figures, Quadient calculated the total number of thefts per person across this population, then multiplied by the UK population (using the figure 67,330,000).<\/p>\n

13 forces shared data on the value of stolen parcels \u2013 to calculate a cost-per-parcel, Quadient divided the total number of thefts across these forces with the total reported value, for an average of \u00a3138.<\/p>\n

Data on the total parcel theft cost, as well as public sentiment and behaviour, was obtained from a survey conducted in September 2025 by market research firm Censuswide that questioned 2,000 UK consumers.<\/p>\n

To calculate UK-wide theft figures, Quadient multiplied the total number of households that had parcels stolen (4,828,000) by the average price of a parcel (\u00a3138) to get the figure \u00a3666.5 million.<\/p>\n
