The importance of online shopping, which was already a popular option, has increase dramatically. What\u2019s more, there has also been a\u00a0<strong>change in how parcels are handled<\/strong>, due to the need for reduced-contact deliveries.<\/p>\n<p>The ideal scenario would be for all parcels to be\u00a0<strong>rapidly and efficiently delivered<\/strong>\u00a0within apartment blocks. That way, residents would be able to\u00a0<strong>continue their day unimpeded<\/strong>\u00a0by awaiting the delivery of items, whilst property management staff wouldn\u2019t need to spend a disproportionate amount of time managing the delivery of parcels.<\/p>\n<p>However, the reality for many managed properties is somewhat different. In addition to the human interaction that comes with accepting deliveries, parcels can\u00a0<strong>pile up in reception areas and storage rooms<\/strong>, residents can be\u00a0<strong>difficult to find<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>security of items<\/strong>\u00a0can be a problem, parcels can be\u00a0<strong>mislaid<\/strong>, and the list of problems goes on.<\/p>\n<p>Essentially, manual approaches are being taken to tackling an issue that has arisen in the\u00a0<strong>digital age<\/strong>. As such, property companies are\u00a0<strong>beginning to turn to technology<\/strong>\u00a0to provide a solution in the form of\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.parcelpending.com\/en-gb\/markets\/residential-parcel-lockers\/\">secure on-site, parcel lockers<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>A growing problem<\/h2>\n<p>The number of parcels being delivered is continuing to grow. An\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ofcom.org.uk\/__data\/assets\/pdf_file\/0028\/186139\/annual-monitoring-update-postal-market-18-19.pdf\">Ofcom report<\/a>\u00a0cited that, for the financial year of 2018-2019,\u00a0<strong>total parcel volumes increased by 10% year-on-year<\/strong>, reaching a total of 2.6 billion items. In addition to this, a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php\/E-commerce_statistics_for_individuals#undefined\">survey conducted by Eurostat (2019)<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0found that\u00a0<strong>87% of people that use the internet have purchased goods or services online in the previous 12 months<\/strong>. These statistics are just a handful of many which indicate that the\u00a0<strong>volume of parcels<\/strong>\u00a0being delivered is growing. However, this presents a potential challenge \u2013 how should customers take final delivery of their purchases?<\/p>\n<p>Some online retailers are addressing this challenge by offering\u00a0<strong>collection from self-service locker hubs<\/strong>. This can help to unite the shopper with their parcel, providing that the customer is able to travel to the locker.\u00a0Now, property management companies are increasingly looking at lockers to\u00a0<strong>increase the level of convenience for residents<\/strong>, while of course also reducing the various overheads of receiving and managing packages manually.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmhc.org\/news\/press-release\/special-delivery-2018-nmhckingsley-package-delivery-report\/\">NMHC notes<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0that the apartment industry is generally\u00a0<strong>moving away from manual forms of package handling in favour of electronic notifications<\/strong>. Over three-quarters (77%) of buildings now have, it states: \u2018a dedicated space for package storage with package lockers being the preferred method among respondents\u2019.<\/p>\n<h3>Simple, secure, and convenient<\/h3>\n<p>There are numerous benefits to such a solution. Firstly, it\u00a0<strong>removes the need for alternative delivery options<\/strong>, like returning the parcel to the depot, or leaving it in a \u2018safe\u2019 place. Additionally, for staff in managed residential properties, it\u00a0<strong>alleviates the responsibility of storing parcels and trying to track down recipients<\/strong>. And it benefits the customer as it\u00a0<strong>makes getting hold of their delivery comparatively stress-free<\/strong>, whilst eliminating the guesswork about where their parcel is.<\/p>\n<p>Their\u00a0<strong>popularity is continuing to grow<\/strong>\u00a0for various reasons, with the\u00a0<strong>reduced contact component\u00a0<\/strong>now being a very important characteristic.
